Premium Business Growth Network Supporting Female Entrepreneurs
Perth, Western Australia Mar 14, 2022 (Issuewire.com) – As a co-founder and CEO of an established SME in Australia, Lorraine Garvie is part of a shocking statistic; only 18.3% of CEOs in Australia are women! In the lead-up to this year’s International Women’s Day, Lorraine decided to take a good look at how gender bias showed up in her own business and was shocked at what she found.
Being a strong women’s advocate in Perth’s premium business network for the last 7 years, and a prominent business coach for the previous decade, Ms. Garvie knows that women are well represented within her business and among her clients. However, it was only when she put a call out for nominations of women leaders in businesses turning over $1.5 million, with a very mixed response, that she dug deeper and was forced to acknowledge the statistics. “At District32 we have four levels of membership,” she said, “and while women represent 85% of our members in the ‘start up’ phase, that figure drops to just 13% of female representation in our Premium members.”
Lorraine Garvie is passionate about turning these figures around. She has established a sponsorship for women who break the bias, and this International Women’s Day gave away Premium Memberships and other prizes valued at a total of $32 0000. “We have to find ways to encourage women to break through the glass ceiling and reach for the top echelon of business,” she says.
“There’s definitely a global awareness and a movement to close the gap between men and women in top leadership positions,” Ms. Garvie said, “but shouldn’t we all start to address the gender bias at a grassroots level? By knowing the numbers in our own businesses, we can find real and valid ways to encourage women to excel at the highest level.”
District32 is Perth’s premium business growth network and exists to support members to grow business and increase profit with fast results.
