Ben Cary- Founder, Sports Handicapper

“I started CapWize, formally Currency Kings, in January of 2018. From 2013-2017, I was consistently hitting 55-58% of my bets for each sport and annually overall. I initially didn’t realize how decent of a handicapper I was until someone approached me from a FB Group, and was impressed about my picks/results. Before December, he brought me on his team to help handicap, but I realized I had an idea to change the industry and wanted to start my own venture. Around this same time, before I officially launched CapWize, I worked in software sales for 2-3 years. I also have a digital marketing agency that specializes in FB ads.”

Nick Granered – Co-founder/Sports Data Wizard

“I’ve been a huge sports fan my entire life. I was born in Maryland and raised in Virginia so my sports allegiances are split between Baltimore and DC teams – Ravens in football, Wizards in basketball, Nationals in baseball, and my one true love, the Caps in hockey.

In undergrad, I double majored in math and statistics and I finished up my Master’s degree in statistics in May 2020. The whole time, I’ve worked on combining my love of statistics with my love of sports on projects ranging from making models for DFS to working with player tracking data from the NFL. Check out a project I worked ondealing with predictive modeling at the NFL play by play level.”

About The CapWize Simulation Model

The philosophy behind our model is to acknowledge that if two teams were to play many different times, there would be many different outcomes, even if all of the conditions of the game are the same.

So, instead of directly modeling a point spread or over/under, we have developed a model that allows us to take the conditions of a game and produce realistic simulations of the outcome. We perform 10,000 simulations for each college basketball game. Doing these enough times paints a clear picture of how likely certain game outcomes are, which helps inform us as to where the good value lies for placing bets.

This is the most effective way to attempt to find inefficiencies in the lines and to make intelligent sports picks vs relying heavily on ATS and O/U historical trends which are great at showing correlation but not the best at predicting the outcomes of future games.
