Beauty By Yuni’s Lip Blushing service is ideal for those who prefer symmetrical, fuller-looking lips but are tired of reapplying make-up each day that smudges and wipes away. Applied by experienced cosmetic tattoo artists from the salon’s recently expanded team, Lip Blushing offers long-lasting colour and improved pigmentation for pale or ageing lips.

The salon’s Lip Blushing service is available from all three artists: Yuni Wilson, Tayla Wilson and Tenae Barr. Tenae, the newest member of the team, specializes in providing clients with a natural tint to their lips, creating fullness and symmetry for those who have lost pigmentation. A fan of the ‘no make-up’ make-up look, Tenae is skilled at creating a subtle look for her clients, but also enjoys a bold pop of colour.

Lip Blushing is ideal for clients who have lost colour in their lips due to age, fillers or medical conditions, and is recommended by Tenae for those who want to improve the volume of their lips. Oftentimes, lack of lip pigmentation can be mistaken for loss of volume, and clients find that their lips appear fuller once the natural lip line is restored.
Beauty By Yuni’s artists use safe, stable high-performance iron oxide pigments in their Lip Blushing procedures, that have been specifically formulated for permanent make-up. The process is considered a team effort, as artist and client must work together to create the desired result. This begins with client preparation before the appointment, which entails avoiding certain foods, drinks, supplements and beauty procedures for a set time. For optimum results, the client should also bring examples of lip tints that they like on similar skin tones.
Yuni, Tayla, and Tenae all follow strict health and safety rules at the studio for all procedures, and Lip Blushing is carried out using sterile, single-use needles that are opened in front of the client for additional reassurance. All appointments incorporate an in-depth consultation and colour creation process to find the best colour match to the client’s expectations, and a topical anaesthetic is applied beforehand to help reduce any discomfort. A full aftercare kit is also provided.
A recent interview with Tenae is included below.
“What is your personal favourite style of lip blushing?”
“Oh, this is a hard one, I LOVE every style of lip blushing! Currently, I am obsessed with a soft natural tint to the lip that creates fullness and symmetry. I am a huge fan of the no-makeup makeup look and love when people can’t tell you have a tattoo and just think you’re naturally blessed. I love creating natural and subtle looks but bold colours are always fun too.”
“What is your favourite aspect of lip blushing?”
“Restoring what was once there. With age, fillers or medical conditions, our lip pigmentation tends to recede and we think that our lips aren’t as full or as big as they actually are. Restoring lip pigmentation to its former glory always brings me such joy because our clients can’t believe the results. When lip pigmentation disappears from our natural lip line, it can be confused with volume loss. Which isn’t always the case. When you restore the pigmentation the lips look fuller and can save you from overfilling lips when it isn’t actually what you’re looking for. Though, lip blushing partnered with filler is amazing and looks absolutely stunning.”
“What should I be looking for when searching for the right lip blushing artist?”
“I would consider any artist’s education, knowledge and background in the beauty industry. When you’re looking for your artist, firstly look at their work – ask for before and after photos if they’re not immediately accessible. When looking at images, make sure you’re looking at the application – are the lips evenly saturated? Have they overlined or passed the vermillion border (this is extremely important) and are they creating symmetry? Ask for healed photos and consider going into a clinic for a consultation. I think it’s extremely important that each client is educated on what are achievable results. You need to be able to openly discuss what you want and whether it can be created by your artist. Make sure you’re not just going for price. Lips are an extremely difficult area to correct and more often than not we have to turn away working over previous lip tattoos created by another artist. Take your time when deciding. Lips are such a significant feature and picking the right artist can be make or break.”
“What are some tips that you recommend to every client?”
“Be prepared. We love creating for you but lip blushing requires team effort. Together we need to work towards your desired result. The best way you can help us is by coming to your appointment prepped. Bring in images of lip tints you like that are similar to your skin colour and tone. Bring in lipsticks/liptints/lipgloss that inspire your goal. Get a good sleep the night before, avoid caffeine prior to your appointments, hydrate and be ready for a long appointment. It’s so important to make sure you allocate enough time for your lip tattoo and be ready to commit to your aftercare plan. We also recommend each client undergoes oral treatment for cold sores prior to your appointment as the lip blushing technique is extremely stimulating – even if you have never had an outbreak.”
“What’s included in your appointment?”
“Each appointment includes a thorough consultation and personalised colour creation. An in-depth design process that results in as much symmetry as possible while keeping in mind your desired results. A gentle process of pigment implantation with minimal swelling. We also recommend topical anaesthetic to help with any discomfort and a complete aftercare kit with instructions on how to look after your new beautiful lips. This is the next most important part to your process. Aftercare is SO important.”
